Mr. Hagarty is currently employed by the Town of Foxborough as a Music Specialist at the Ahern Middle School where he has been teaching general classroom and instrumental music for twenty seven years. He graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor’s of Music in Education, and he received his Master’s Degree in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Hagarty has studied clarinet with Edward Avedisian of the Boston Ballet and with Peter Hadcock of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His experience includes saxophone studies with Joe Viola, and conducting with Lee Christman and Frank Battisti .Mr. Hagarty conducts the 6th and 7th grade concert bands and teaches instrumental music in grades 5-8. He has introduced and developed an Electronic Music Lab at the Middle School. Mr. Hagarty teaches beginning Jazz Improvization at the summer Improv. camp.
Mr. Hagarty is the co-founder of the Foxboro Summer Instrumental Music Camp and has served as a director for the past 23 years. He has been a recepient of the WCVB Great Expedctations Teacher Award and the Norfolk County Teacher of the Year Award. He has perfomed with several Massachusettes wind bands including the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, The Milford Concert Band, and the Southeastern Masscussettes Wind Ensemble. He has served as a adjudicator for the Southeast Mass. District Festivals, the Mass. All State Festivals, and has served as a Junior District Concert Band Chairman. He is presently an member of the Massachussetts Instrumental and Chorale Conductors Association (MICCA) and Technology in Music Education (TI:ME). He was also a guest conductor of the South East Connecticut Junior District Concert Band in the Spring of 2011.
